The 2022 Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony, which is considered amongst the major awards in the world and as second only to the Nobel Prizes, will be held on Friday 28th October in Oviedo (the capital of the Principality of Asturias). This solemn act will be presided over by Their Majesties The King and Queen of Spain and with the presence of Their Royal Highnesses the Princess of Asturias and the Infanta Sofía.
The eight Awards were launched in 1981 and are intended to acknowledge the scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanitarian work done by individuals and institutions at an international level. This year the laureates are: Carmen Linares and María Pagés (Arts), Eduardo Matos Moctezuma (Social Sciences), Adam Michnik (Communication and Humanities); Geoffrey Hinton, Yann LeCun, Yoshua Bengio and Demis Hassabis (Technical and Scientific Research), Olympic Refuge Foundation and IOC Refugee Olympic Team (Sports), Juan Mayorga (Literature), Ellen MacArthur (International Cooperation) and Shigeru Ban (Concord).
