2022 Cannes Film Festival


The 75th Cannes Film Festival will take place 17 – 28 May. Eurovision News Events will offer live stand up facilities for this event. After 28 years of collaboration with Canal+, France Télévisions will be the official broadcaster of the 74th edition. David Cronenberg, the Dardenne brothers, Claire Denis, Arnaud Desplechin or even James Gray and Park Chan-Wook will compete to try to win the Palme d'Or.

U.S. Hosts Leaders of Finland and Sweden


On Thursday, President Biden will welcome Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson of Sweden and President Sauli Niinistö of Finland to the White House. According to a statement from the White House, 'the leaders will discuss Finland’s and Sweden’s NATO applications and European security, as well as strengthening our close partnerships across a range of global issues and support for Ukraine'.

Davos World Economic Forum 2022


The World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting will take place in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland from 22-26 May 2022. It will take place under the theme of Working Together, Restoring Trust. Discussions will focus on the situation in Ukraine, the possibility of further penalties against Russia, and their consequences on economic development. It will be the WEF's first global in-person leadership event since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Queen's Platinum Jubilee


Four days of celebration are planned in the United Kingdom to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. She will be the first British monarch to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee. The Queen will be celebrated in London from 2 to 5 June 2022 with The Queens Birthday Parade, the "Platinum Party at the Palace" and the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.

IX Summit of the Americas


The United States will host the ninth annual Summit of the Americas, June 6-10 in Los Angeles, California.  The meeting will bring together leaders from the countries of the Americas under the theme ‘“Building a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future”. This will be the first time the United States has hosted the summit since it’s inaugural session which was held in Miami in 1994.

Pope Francis in DRC and South Sudan


Pope Francis wil visit Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan from 2-7 July 2022. These visits take place in a context of violent crisis and insecurity within the two countries. It will be the first visit of a Pope in South Sudan, since the creation of the country in 2011. The Vatican has a role of mediator in the South Sudan crisis. It will be the second travel in 2022 for the Pope, after the one in Malta in April.

This years UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) will take place in Sharm El-Sheikh 7-18 November. Many attending nations have recognised a shortfall in reducing emission targets since COP26 and a have vowed to review this before the new conference. The decision to hold the conference has raised some concerns from protesters, with President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi overseeing a hard-line crackdown on civil rights and outlawing dissent.

US Midterm Elections


The US midterm elections will be held on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022.  During this election 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate will be contested.  The election will be an informal referendum of the Biden presidency with Republicans looking to take over both the Senate and the House. Eurovision will offer live standup positions overlooking the U.S. Capitol.

G20 Leaders' Summit in Bali


The 17th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit will take place 15 and 16 November in Bali. Indonesia's new ambassador to Australia announced a plan to invite Russian President Putin to the meeting, but some western leaders, including Joe Biden and Scott Morrison, have called for Russia to be expelled from the G20 over its invasion of Ukraine. The summit could face boycotts and backlash if Putin does attend in November.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in Qatar, from 21 November to 18 December 2022. This will be the first World Cup ever to be held in the Arab World and will be the last to involve 32 teams. It will be also the first World Cup of football in winter because of the weather; traditionnaly it unfolds in summer.
