Trump Impeachment Inquiry - Public Hearings

WASHINGTON, D.C., UNITED STATES

Democrats have unveiled articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. The two articles charge President Trump with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, representing a “clear and present danger” to national security and the upcoming 2020 elections. Once finalized by the Judiciary Committee, a full vote is expected on the House floor on whether to impeach the president before the holiday. If approved in the House, a trial in the Republican- held Senate would take place in January.

COP25

MADRID, SPAIN

The 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP25, is taking place in Madrid, Spain, from 2 to 13 December. UN secretary General, Antoinio Guterres has underlined the importance of the meeting, calling global efforts to combat climate change so far, "utterly useless", saying that the planet is close to the "point of no return". Swedish climate activist, Greta Thunberg is also expected to attend the conference.

Pope Francis will celebrate his seventh Christmas since becoming pontiff. Francis will preside over the traditional Christmas Eve mass in Saint Peter's Basilica and at midday on Christmas day impart his Urbi et Orbi message (Latin for "to the city and to the world") for which tens of thousands are expected to gather in Saint Peter's Square. The Christmas celebrations come just a month after such an important trip to Asia (Thailand and Japan).

75th anniversary Auschwitz liberation

OSWIECIM, POLAND

The Auschwitz concentration camp was a complex of over 40 concentration and extermination camps built and operated by Nazi Germany in occupied Poland during World War II. As Soviet troops approached Auschwitz in January 1945, most of its population was sent west on a death march to other camps. The remaining prisoners were liberated on the 27th January 1945, a day commemorated as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
