German EU Presidency

BERLIN, GERMANY

On 1 July 2020, Germany assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. According to Government statements, the German presidency will concentrate throughout the Presidency on the modernization of mobility in Europe to achieve greater levels of sustainability and innovation. Many of the meetings that Germany will chair during its semester will be held remotely, by video-conference. Eurovision News Events will offer live standup facilities with a view on the Brandenburg Gate.

Arianespace VV16 Launch

For its sixth mission in 2020 and the first Vega flight of the year, Arianespace will orbit 53 satellites on the Small Spacecraft Mission Service (SSMS) Proof of Concept (PoC) Flight, performed on behalf of 21 customers.

Supreme Court Ginsburg

WASHINGTON, D.C., UNITED STATES

Family, close friends and members of the U.S. Supreme Court will attend a private funeral ceremony for the late Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, on Wednesday. Her casket will then be moved to the Supreme Court for a public viewing. The late Supreme Court Justice will lie in repose for two days so the public can pay their respects before her casket is moved to the U.S. Capitol. President Trump has indicated he will nominate his pick to replace the late justice by week's end.

The first day of the high-level General Debate of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly will take place on Tuesday, 22 September 2020. Due to concerns over COVID-19, world leaders will not travel to New York and will instead deliver their addresses virtually. T. First presidential debate

CLEVELAND, OHIO, UNITED STATES

President Trump will face off against his Democratic rival Joe Biden in the first debate of the 2020 Presidential election campaign. The debate will take place at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH after the University of Notre Dame withdrew from hosting over COVID -19 concerns. It is expected there will be only one debate moderator in an effort to keep as few people onstage as possible.

Special European Council

On 1 and 2 October, EU leaders will meet in Brussels to discuss the single market, industrial policy and digital transformation, as well as external relations, in particular relations with Turkey and with China. The summit will also be an opportunity to take stock of the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ahead of the summit, President Charles Michel travelled to Greece, Cyprus and Malta as part of the preparations for the discussions.

The second debate will take place at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, in Miami, Florida. Florida remains a COVID-19 hotspot. The debates will look very different than four years ago and will not take place in front of a large audience.
