UK Brexit Crisis

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM

Prime Minister Theresa May will meet her cabinet today as she considers her next steps on Brexit after her plans were thrown into doubt by the House of Commons Speaker, John Bercow. He ruled out another vote on the PM's deal unless MPs are given a new motion. The UK is currently due to leave the EU on 29 March. EU leaders are expected to discuss whether to grant an extension to the Brexit process. at this week's summit.

Ukraine Presidential Elections

KIEV, UKRAINE

On March 31, Presidential elections will be held in Ukraine. This is the first nationwide public vote for Ukrainians since the snap elections of 2014. Citizens will be able to choose from a record number of 39 candidates registered. Volodymyr Zelenskiy has almost 25% of public support, followed by Yulia Timoshenko 18 % and Petro Poroshenko 17 %. If none of the candidates win an absolute majority, the second round of voting will take place on April 21.

Pope Francis Visits Morocco

RABAT, MOROCCO

Pope Francis is visiting Morocco on March 30 & 31 on invitation of King Mohammed VI and the local bishops. The local Catholic church has said it hopes the trip will draw international attention to the plight of migrants in the nation widely touted as a key transit point for migrants. Morocco's government has repeatedly said the country cannot be the region's immigration police, yet deportations and crackdowns have been rampant, leading human rights organizations to denounce these actions.

Pope Francis Visits Northern Macedonia and Bulgaria

Pope Francis is set to visit Bulgaria and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in May. He had accepted the invitation of the civil authorities and the Catholic Church in the two countries. The Pope will visit the cities of Sofia and Rakovski during the visit to Bulgaria, which will take place on 5-7 May; and on 7 May will travel to the city of Skopje in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Eurovision Song Contest 2019 - NEWS

Israel will host the 2019 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest at Tel Aviv's "Expo Tel Aviv" congress and convention centre 14-18 May, following the country's victory at the 2018 contest in Lisbon with the song "Toy", performed by Netta. It is the third time Israel hosts the Contest, following earlier victories in Paris in 1978 and in Birmingham in 1998.

72nd CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2019

The 72nd Festival de Cannes will take place from 14 to 25th of May 2019. Mexican Director Alejandro González Iñárritu will be president of the jury. Iñárritu, who won the best director Oscar two years running for "Birdman" and "The Revenant", is the first Mexican to chair the panel. His association with the festival began almost 20 years ago, when his first film, "Amores Perros", premiered on the Croisette.
