First 4K transmission of FIFA World Cup

Eurovision mounted its largest ever broadcast services operation to date at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.™ For the first time, 3 games, including the final, were broadcast in 4K resolution (ultra-high resolution) using the Eurovision Global Network. Content was carried via the fibre and satellite network from the various venues to the rightsholders and over 30 return feeds.

Eurovision Song Contest goes multimedia

For the first time, the Eurovision Song Contest is broadcast live on the Internet. All fans in Asia can now be reached via permanent facilities from Eurovision Media Services and a commercial CD featuring all 25 songs comes out. The Olsen Brothers from Denmark are the winners with 'On the Wings of Love'.

Satellite TV is born

Satellite TV is born

The first transmission between North America and Europe using the Telstar satellite, a spherical satellite about the size of a large beach ball. There was only a 20 minute transmission window during each 2.5 hour transmission window due to the fact that the Telstar could only broadcast signals when it was visible to ground stations on both sides of the Atlantic.

The first Eurovision Song Contest took place in Lugano, Switzerland. Seven countries participated in this historic event and a total of 10 national broadcasters transmitted the show live to audiences at home. Few people know that the contest was designed to show off the Eurovision Network.
