EMS showcased its new remote graphics service during the 2018 FIS Ski World Cup taking place in Crans-Montana.

Eurovision Media Services (EMS), the business arm of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), showcased its new remote graphics service during the 2018 FIS Ski World Cup taking place in Crans-Montana, Switzerland from 03-04 March.

With more events and content available than ever before, it's important for sports federations and event organisers to make their content more relevant for audiences around the world. At the same time, event sponsors are continuously looking for better ways to target their messaging. All in all, event content personalization is becoming essential.

Until now, the most common way to achieve some level of personalization for sports events was to produce several signal versions at the origin and transport them separately to rightsholders – a costly and complex operation. Without this, sports federations and event organisers were limited to one signal message when targeting multiple audiences.

"Our latest Eurovision Remote Graphics Service allows clients to efficiently adapt their graphical overlays for different locations by transmitting one single feed across multiple geographical zones and inserting personalized graphics at the destination", said Louis Matignon, Multiplatform Solutions Manager, EMS.

"As the live signal from the event arrives to rightsholders, our system inserts the correct graphics. The central production crew fully controls which chart, language, unit or sponsor logo they display while ensuring full alignment with the predefined graphical chart", he continued.

The new service was developed in-house by EMS and will be further tested and used for upcoming events later this year.

The EBU holds the worldwide TV broadcasting rights for the Swiss-Ski event outside of Switzerland.

EBU Head of Winter Sports Ingolfur Hannesson added, "The new, groundbreaking remote graphics solution developed by EMS will allow EBU to provide future rightsholders and other clients with an innovative commercial tool, which will enhance the adaptability of their content and increase their income. No other player in the media or sport industry is currently offering a similar solution."
