Get ready for sun outage season
Plan ahead for smooth transmissions during February to April 2025
Prepare for sun outage season: February–April 2025
As we enter the new year, it’s time to prepare for the upcoming sun outage season, which occurs between February and April. This natural phenomenon, caused by the alignment of the sun with satellites, may result in brief disruptions to satellite downlink services.
What are sun outages?
Sun outages, also known as solar interference, happen when the sun is directly behind a satellite, overwhelming the satellite signal with solar radiation. These outages are predictable, short-lived, and vary depending on your geographical location.
How Eurovision Services is supporting you
At Eurovision Services, we have taken proactive steps to ensure smooth operations during this period. Our turn-around teleports have been secured to minimize the impact of sun outages on your transmissions. However, because sun outages depend on location, monitoring every reception point is not feasible.
What can you do?
To prepare for sun outages, we recommend the following:
-
Check Sun Outage Dates and Times
Use one of the many free tools available online to calculate when sun outages are likely to occur at your reception sites. This will help you anticipate potential disruptions. -
Plan for Potential Disruptions
If your transmissions are likely to be affected, consider scheduling alternative solutions or taking preventative measures to minimize service interruptions.
