EUROVISION SERVICES MIDDLE EAST BOOSTS ITS SPORT DISTRIBUTION CREDENTIALS
Eurovision Services Middle East, based at Dubai Media City, starts the year on a high note
Eurovision Services Middle East, based at Dubai Media City, has started the year with the distribution of two major international sports events from the region.
From 8-12 January, the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudia Arabia, hosted the Supercopa de España, which saw Real Madrid beat Valencia and Atlético Madrid overcome Barcelona to put the Madrid rivals head-to-head in the final. Real Madrid won the match 4–1 on penalties, following a 0–0 draw after extra time, to bag their 11th Supercopa España title. Eurovision Services provided the distribution of the entire tournament over Asia and the Americas.
Further south, the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup is under way in South Africa from 17th January until 9th February. Eurovision Services is handling the worldwide distribution of the live coverage and highlights for the tournament from two venues, Bloemfontein and Potchesfstroom, where 16 teams, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, are competing for the 2020 title.
"We are delighted to have started the year on a high note with the distribution of two major international events,” said Jorge Simao, Eurovision Services Dubai bureau chief. “The Supercopa de España in Jeddah was a huge success and the distribution of the U19 Cricket World Cup from South Africa is the first time we are distributing an international cricket event on the Eurovision Global Network. Both cases are great examples of our agility in distributing events from the MENA region and Africa cost effectively."
