Overview

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will mark this year’s World Food Day on October 16 as the world continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic which has exposed the fragility of our food systems, and threatens to push millions more into hunger. FAO will celebrate World Food Day 2020 with the theme “Grow, nourish, sustain. Together. Our actions are our future”. World Food Day lectures and initiatives will call for more resilient and robust agri-food systems, and for global solidarity - both vital for our recovery from this crisis, and for building back better. A video mapping show paying tribute to food heroes and celebrating FAO’s 75th anniversary will be held at the Colosseum and FAO headquarters’ building in Rome. The FAO Director-General will be joined by representatives of the Italian government to inaugurate the show at both locations, before visiting a traveling SDGs installation that will arrive in Rome just in time for World Food Day. The World Food Day provides an opportunity to thank Food Heroes – farmers and workers throughout the food supply chain - who, no matter the circumstances, continue to provide food to their communities and beyond.
