OPCW 59th Executive Council meeting in The Hague

The Hague, Netherlands
18 April 2018

The OPCW Executive Council will hold its 59th meeting on Wednesday 18 April at 1000 AM CET in the Ieper Room of the OPCW Headquarters building in Johan de Wittlaan Road 32,  The Hague.

The meeting was initially requested by the United Kingdom but it is expected that the use of chemical weapons in Syria will remain on the agenda as experts from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons will at the same time travel to the Syrian city of Douma.

Russia's representative at the OPCW, Alexander Shulgin, accused the West of blaming Moscow for blocking access to the site.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has also firmly denied accusations from the US that there has been any interference with evidence at the site of the suspected Syrian chemical attack which led to Saturday's strikes.

A nine-strong team from the OPCW has been waiting to enter Douma which is now under Syrian and Russian military control.
