UK GENERAL ELECTION

London, United Kingdom
07-09 June 2017

The British Prime Minister, Theresa May has called for a General Election on June 08, 2017.

She said that "Britain needed certainty, stability and strong leadership" following the EU referendum.

Opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn said his Labour Party wanted the election, calling it a chance for the electorate to get a government that puts "the majority first". He went on to say that the Tories had "failed to rebuild the economy" and that he would be campaigning on housing, education and the NHS.

The Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron will be putting the UK's membership of the EU single market "front and centre" of their general election campaign. He said his party would "avoid a disastrous hard Brexit" and said the 8 June election that Theresa May has called for was a "chance to change the direction of our country".
