70th Cannes Film Festival

Cannes, France
17-28 May 2017

The Cannes International Film Festival kicks-off tomorrow Wednesday 17. This 70th edition will run until Sunday 28 May 2017.

Spanish director and screenwriter Pedro Almodóvar is president of the jury.

This 70th festival reinforces its status of politically charged cinema with a selection of movies that encompasses the refugee crisis, climate change, mental health and the exploitation of animals.

The festival has attracted star names, including Dustin Hoffman, Marion Cotillard and Nicole Kidman. The Australian-born actress will appear in four films in total. She is in Sofia Coppola's "The Beguiled", a new adaptation of the southern gothic novel with Colin Farrell and Kirsten Dunst. Kidman and Farrell also appear in competition with "The Lobster" director Yorgos Lanthimos’s new film "The Killing of a Sacred Deer". Cannes regular auteurs like Austrian director Michael Haneke and François Ozon are back. Eastern Europe is represented by Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa, with the Dostoevsky-inspired "A Gentle Creature", and Russian formalist Andrey Zvyagintsev, whose new film "Loveless" had to be made without funding from Russia after the Culture Ministry protested against his last film "Leviathan".

Italian actress Monica Bellucci will host the opening & closing ceremonies.
