From Hillary Clinton to John McCain, Barack Obama to Rudy Giuliani, whoever emerges as a
candidate will be followed from debates to primaries to conventions and election day and night.
Delegates to the national party conventions (see dates below) are selected through direct primary
elections, or state caucuses and state conventions. Beginning in January 2008, the first
delegate-selection contests will be held in Iowa (caucus) and New Hampshire (primary).
The process continues through June.
In previous cycles, including 2004, the Democratic and Republican candidates were effectively chosen
by the March primaries, because the leading candidates had collected enough committed delegates to
win in the national convention.
Some of the key dates in the electoral process include the following:
25-28 August 2008 - Democratic National Convention, Denver, Colorado
1-4 September 2008 - Republican National Convention, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota
4 November 2008 - Election Day
15 December 2008 - Members of the US Electoral College meet in each state to cast their votes
for President
6 January 2009 - Electoral votes officially tallied before both Houses of Congress
20 January 2009 - Inauguration Day

Eurovision Americas provided comprehensive broadcast facilities for election coverage from a choice of key
locations including Washington and New York.
Broadcasters reporting on President Bush in his bid for re-election had a choice of locations for their coverage: from Crawford, Texas,
or from the Bush victory headquarters in the Reagan building in Washington, D.C. For those with an interest in his Democratic
opponent production and transmission resources were available in Copley Plaza in Boston. And anticipating the results of
the election, Eurovision also enabled broadcasters to go live from the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee and the
State House in Columbus, Ohio.
Over slightly more than four calendar days, Eurovision handled more than 1600 transmissions originating from these feedpoints.
From simple live shots to packages for major special programming, Eurovision Americas assisted broadcasters with their coverage, providing
tailor-made solutions as well as dedicated broadcast and production facilities.
Eurovision’s FiNE network provided eight dedicated paths between Washington, New York and Europe,
and thirteen more outputs were handled by the Eurovision satellite network.
Additionally, news coverage of all the main events including debates, campaigning,
speeches and the vote itself was made available to participants of Eurovision’s News Exchange.
Live coverage of key election events was also relayed on Eurovision’s satellite network for Eurovision Members and other interested broadcasters.
