Scientists at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, will present their latest results in the search for the Higgs boson at a seminar in Geneva, on 4 July. The Higgs boson is a fundamental particle that plays an important role in understanding the matter we are made of. It is the last missing piece in the theory of particle physics known as the Standard Model, which explains how particles have mass and interact. The Large Hadron Collider, the largest particle accelerator in the world, has delivered an impressive number of particle collisions in 2012. These large amounts of data allow the teams of physicists to refine their analyses, increasing the sensitivity to new phenomena such as the Higgs boson. The physics seminar will be held at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland at 07:00 GMT on 4 July followed by a press conference at 09:00 GMT. www.cern.ch Shotlist: 07h00- 09h00 GMT Higgs update seminar 09h00 - 09:10 GMT Interviews with the theoretical physicists Peter Higgs, Francois Englert, Carl Hagen and Gerald Guralnik 09h10 - 09:45 GMT Press Conference: Rolf Heuer, CERN Director General, Fabiola Gianotti, ATLAS spokesperson, Joseph Incandela, CMS spokesperson, Sergio Bertolucci, CERN Director for Research and Computing, and Steve Myers, CERN Director for Accelerators and Technology 09:45 - 10:00 GMT Video summary of the day (15'): A roll: CERN footage and highlights of the seminar and press conference, Interview Rolf Heuer (English); B-roll: interview Rolf Heuer (German), interviews with experiments' spokespersons.
