Various Coventry Lady Godiva Awakes 2. Various Lady Godiva arriving in Walthamstow, north London Script: 10:00:00 OPENING GFX Strange scenes on the road from Coventry to London. Lady Godiva awakes and has been cycled over 7 days down to Olympic London. It was a tough journey. SOT Mick Ives, cycle coach: So we had 3 punctures along the road. We had 1 bent wheel. We had spare wheels. The logistics support worked really well. We had enough spares to do what we wanted to do. And had we needed more we had backup spares back in Coventry. It all started in Coventry. The legend has it that in the 11th century Godiva paraded on her horse around Coventry, as an act of defiance. SOT Jane Hitch, Director, Imagineer Productions: She is very important. She represents social justice, equality and fairness, because 1000 years ago she rode through the streets naked to stop her husband from putting higher taxes on the poor. She did it and he didn't raise the taxes. It took 2 years to build this structure. The departure of the 6-meter high marionette structure was part of Coventry's Godiva carnival. The English noble woman arrived in north London. A group of 100 cyclists took turns along the week-long journey. The model is one of 12 public art commissions across the UK to celebrate the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. And an enthusiastic crowd welcomed Lady Godiva, fully clothed this time, with song and dance. 2. A Flavour of London - Jamie Oliver Demonstrates The Olympic City's Culinary Diversity. Shot list: Jamie Oliver Press Conferece Various Slough, Heston Blumenthal torch run Tom Kitchin at The Cube Southbank food festival various Brick Lane Curry Cook Off various Ethiopian Food Competition Script: 10:00:00 OPENING GFX One of the UK's most iconic chefs is surely Jamie Oliver. He uses the Olympic spotlight to spread his excitement about current British cuisine. SOT Jamie Oliver, chef and TV personality: What has been quite interesting in Britain, and I see it a lot with cheese-making and beer-making in America and Australia, is like you're getting these really really cleaver people with no rules, no rules, just passion, their kind of area and science. Of course quality is going up up up. And that's really exciting. Another top British chef joined the Olympic fever by being one of the torchbearers in the build-up to the Games. Heston Blumenthal runs a 3-Michelin star restaurant, which has been voted best British restaurant for several years in a row. His colleague Tom Kitchin likes to prepare fresh Scottish produce using classic French techniques. SOT Tom Kitchin, chef: I think it's really interesting how the world has changed its view on British food. Before we were frowned upon, it was all fish and chips and you know? In Scotland it was the bad deep-fried Mars-bar. It was the worst PR ever. Down here in London there's every culture under the sun, you know, but these cultures they are using British food but transmitting it into their own techniques. London is one of the world's most culturally diverse cities... ...and this rich variety is reflected in its food scene. Olympic summer brought together the Southbank food festival. It attracted plenty of visitors, as well as locals. A culinary exploration of the world in one afternoon in London. Not too far off, in East London, a curry cook off was held. There is a strong tradition of Indian food in the British capital. British-Jamaican reggae artist, Rastafarian and celebrity chef Levi Roots was a judge in a competition to highlight Ethiopian cuisine during the Games. And back to Jamie... and his hopes and dreams. SOT Jamie Oliver: My dream would be that every 16 year old child would leave school knowing how to cook, knowing how to budget, looking how to look after themself as well as their family and their future family. That would be a beautiful dream. 3. Usain Bolt Wins For Jamaica And Brixton Shot list: Cut away various Brixton Market Man cooking G⁄Vs crowd scenes various Vox Pops Script: 10:00:00 OPENING GFX Sunday August the 5th 2012 will never be forgotten in this corner of South London. Brixton is just 2 miles from Westminster, and is the centre of the London's Jamaican Community. VOX POPS "Brixton is a place that's got enough vibes, enough things going on, it's a city that doesn't sleep Brixton" "This is sometimes like little Jamaica, you understand?" "Jamaica Bless" Brixton Splash is an annual celebration of Jamaican culture, and in 2012 there were extra reasons to celebrate. Its 50 years since Jamaican Independence, and of course Jamaican Olympic Champion Usain Bolt was to defend his 100 meters crown. Brixton's famous streets were heaving. The aroma of Jerk Chicken, rice and peas and corn wafted through the air accompanied by the thumping base from sound systems on every corner. The atmosphere built throughout the day, with a host of stars entertaining the crowds. At the back of everyone's mind was the Men's 100 meters final. "He is going to bring the house down, he'll bring the house down definitely." People were taking every vantage point to get a glimpse of the world's most famous living Jamaican. The moment every one had been waiting for arrived. The 2012 100 meters Olympic Final. And Usain Bolt played his part to perfection setting a new Olympic record to crown the celebrations, with Yohan Blake making it a Jamaica 1,2...
