Basketball Players From 1948 Olympic Games Re-united At London 2012

10:00:00 OPENING GFX

64 years after his last and only previous visit to London, Chinese Olympian Wu Chengzhang is back.

In the 1948 London Olympics Wu played basketball against Lionel Price who was a member of the British team.

And once London had been awarded this year?s Games, 88-year-old Mr Wu had expressed a desire to return.

SOT Wu Chengzhang, 1948 Chinese Olympian: London is the only city in the world which has had Olympics 3 times. London is a great city. It?s the second time I come to London to see the Olympics. The opening ceremony in 1948 was very simple. The ceremony now, of lighting the torch, this time it is a great performance. I washed the opening ceremony on TV. It was very good.

SOT Lionel Price, 1948 British Olympian: He?s a lovely chap. He is a very very friendly, very very nice guy. I feel privileged. I mean I?ve been taken up for a trip in the London Eye to see the most marvellous views all over London.

Mr Wu seems a bigger celebrity now than 64 years ago.

And at a press conference, Price showed off his 1948 Olympic kit.

Wu said London had changed dramatically since his last visit.

While his British counterpart remembered the Olympic message.

SOT Lionel Price, former British Olympian: I come from a generation where the idea of the Olympic games was not the wining or losing, it was the taking part. As we walked in 1948 into the Wembley Stadium there on the big notice board its said among other things, it?s not the winning and losing it?s the taking part.

Their renewed friendship a symbol of the enduring Olympic bond.

10:00:00 OPENING GFX

My competitive part of my career is over, but it doesn?t mean I?m done with the sport, you know the sport has allowed me to so many opportunities and you know I have had the privilege to do some of the coolest things in the world and I?m still going to go with my goal and try and change the sport and take it to a new level you know it hasn?t reached the peak that I want it to reach and you know its going to be fun sort of being on the outside looking in and you know being able to you know whether it is to go to the world championships and watch next year and go to the Olympics in Brazil and sort of just being able to see from the outside, I think is something that I am looking forward to.

What?s next for you?

I want to go and travel around the world and you know just have some fun, there will be no more staring at a black line for four hours out of the day, but you know I?m just looking to moving on to the next part of my life and you know as my mum said last night, turning the page to the next chapter and who knows where that leads me, this is my first day of retirement and the first day of my new life.

I hate this question because I never know what to say, the question was what medal do I like the most? And what medal do I hate losing the most? There have been so many amazing races, I mean, I think the best one was probably my first one, back in 2004, being able to win the first gold medal, the very first day of the swimming, in the 400, Is probably one of the coolest moments just because it?s the first one and it shows the hard work does pay off. The one I hated loosing the most, probably the 200 fly here just you know Chad, handed me my third defeat and sort of my last 10 years, you know if I could go back and swim that race again, I would love to but you know that?s how I prepare myself and I know that, no I?m not coming back, don?t get any ideas, you know I like I said before, Chad prepared himself for that race and he was the more prepared swimmer and that?s how he got his hand on the wall first and I know that and I realise that.

Yeah, what are your reviews on London, what are your views on London as a host city?

It?s been awesome, you know it?s a, you know I try to, every city I go to I try to compare it to (and I always do this as an American) I always to compare it to an American city and I love New York and I think its London and New York have a lot of similarities and I think its awesome, you know I was driving down from the village last night and going through sort of the city a little bit and it was fun just being able to see different parts of the city and we were coming over the bridge this morning and being able to see Big Ben and Parliament, you know it was the first time I had seen them this whole trip and it?s cool to go around and see more of it and hopefully over the next couple of days I will able to enjoy a little bit more and I will be able to have time, to go out and I don?t know? See London how you are supposed too, I don?t know how you are supposed too? But I have some friends that live over here and I am going to ask them what to do and what to see? I am definitely going to enjoy this one more than I have, you know more Olympics than I have in the past, you know its just cool being able to, just have fun and enjoy and I have said this so many times to you guys but that?s all I really wanted to do this Olympics and I have been able to do it.
