SOT Michael Breakey, prop maker: I am a prop maker and this is one of the unusual things I've been asked to do. And it's going to a very prominent place. I feel really honored actually. Script: 10:00:00 OPENING GFX As London gets ready to start another Olympic day, commuters and visitors encountered some arty surprises across the capital. 20 Statues got secretly fitted with big hats overnight. From Lord Nelson on Trafalgar Square to King George IV, and even a Lady Gaga style hat on Major General Havelock. It's called the Hatwalk. Fitting the hat on Lord Nelson last night, standing 60meters above ground, was a serious challenge. But the weather remained calm and dry. An original way to celebrate British heritage and its hat making tradition. Lock and Co made Nelsons original hat back in 1805. Its current Designer Sylvia Fletcher was invited to create Nelsons Hat for 2012. Lock and Co have been making hats for prominent British Heads since 1676 and they are proud to hold two Royal Warrants today. Still based at the original St James shop, Locks is the quintessential British Milliners. SOT Sylvia Fletcher, hat designer: I tried to incorporate the Olympic Spirit, nut also because it's seen from a distance it needed to be really over the top and flamboyant. But to create a hat on such a high and large statue, Sylvia needed some extra help. And thus prop maker Michael Breakey got involved. The hat creation needed to be full weather proof, and thus withstanding lighting and wind. SOT Michael Breakey, prop maker: I am a prop maker and this is one of the unusual things I've been asked to do. And it's going to a very prominent place. I feel really honoured actually. So next time when you are out at night on London's streets maybe keep an eye on its many statues as there might be some things happening. 2. THE ASIAN CENTURY! The first of a series of trade and environmental debates hosted by 'London House' at the City Hall during the Olympics. Shot list: Various London Oxford Street Various Prime Focus IV Phitz Hearne, Senior Dubbing Mixer, Prime Focus Various Prime Focus Various Oxford Street IV Jim O'Neill, Chairman, Goldman Sachs Asset Management Script: 10:00:00 OPENING GFX To capitalize on the number of business leaders in town for the Olympics, 'City Hall' is being transformed into 'London House' to host a series of debates on global challenges. The Asian Century is first on the agenda with India and China claiming a growing role in world business. SOT: Jim O'Neill, chairman Goldman Sachs Asset Management: The Asian century refers to the remarkable growth story that's already begun to unfold where the Asian economies are the big engines of the world. Particularly China but also India, and a whole group of other nations that are coming up behind them. And it is reflected in increasing Asian investments in London. Take for instance this Indian owned audiovisual company in Soho. It creates visual effects and 3D productions for major film studios in Hollywood and Bollywood. The company sees London as the perfect bridge between its operations in Los Angeles and Mumbai. SOT Parvinder Bhatia, Managing Director, Prime Focus World: The most important thing is talent, I think London gives us access to some of the brightest talents in post production and visual effects sector. London provides us with the centre piece of our operations and the movement of our work between the North American, London and the Asian businesses. Tax breaks for high tech companies are already an incentive and it's hoped that the Olympics will provide a further boost for foreign investment. China's fashion giant Bodiseng has just opened its first store outside of China? right here in London. SOT Craig McKelvie, Store Manager, Bosideng: Bosideng is an Asian company. They have around about 10000 stores in China and renowned for their down-wear. Come over into the UK market to create this line, the Bodiseng-London line, and really I think over the next few years is looking to try to that that into the European market, and possibly it may go into the likes of Paris and Milan. It's a 33 million Pound investment from just one Chinese company - providing a gateway into Europe.
