THE ISU World CHAMPIONSHIPS are one of the highlights of the figure skating calendar. They bring together the world’s best skaters for the six day event, which sees them compete for the sport’s top prizes. The world’s media were in attendance for the event, including Eurovision clients from Japan and the United States, as well as from Europe.

Eurovision provided production and transmission
facilities for broadcast clients as well as items for the
News Exchanges and Eurovision World Feed.

Host broadcaster and Eurovision member SVT set up its
production operations in an open-air space between the
training rink and the main rink. The Eurovision set-up proved
a perfect match for the needs of our clients, with one SNG
truck with two outputs, one HBR for the multilaterals and one
LBR for the unilaterals. Eurovision had one fibre link from
Scandinavia for HD multilaterals and for providing dedicated
circuits to French broadcasters.

'This event was the jewel in the crown for the Scandinavium Arena. It had all the elements for success. First of all, of course, there were the skaters, each of whom was magnificent and performing at the top of their sport. The athletes gave an artistic show that touched the hearts of the viewing public and spectators alike.

'The new marking system meant that we could forget the
controversies that have plagued past competitions. This
time around, the public and the judges were on the same
wavelengths and there were no signs of disapproval
regarding the judges’ marks.

'Next,  there was the location. The training rink and the warmup room were within two minutes’ walk of the main rink, so the athletes could come and go as they pleased – easily and without stress. The Eurovision booking office and the working spaces for our on-site clients were all well-positioned within the training rink area.

‘SVT did a wonderful job. They provided us with outstanding coverage that drew praise from seasoned professionals on site, as well as from the audiences.

‘Finally, there was the Eurovision team itself. Our three-person team worked together extremely well and demonstrated the kind of professionalism that is our hallmark.

‘Our fibre connection allowed us to help our American
friends from ESPN, who found themselves without a way of
getting coverage back to Bristol, Connecticut (ESPN’s
headquarters) on the last day of the competition. Hearing
that Eurovision had an HD link back to Washington, they
asked us to handle last-minute requests for an extended
transmission and we were happy to help'.
