WIMBLEDON: With a new four-year deal for Wimbledon, Eurovision is now the distributor for all four Grand Slam events in the international tennis calendar. Eurovision was awarded this contract by IMG, the world's premier sports and media entertainment company, and the Wimbledon Production partner appointed by AELTC (The All England Lawn Tennis Club).

Eurovision was awarded the contract by IMG on the basis that we were able to improve the quality of the connectivity and simultaneously increase flexibility. This was done principally through diverse fibre routes linking into Eurovision's international FiNE network.

Eurovision provided a full range of services for the international broadcast community over the course of the two weeks of the tournament. Specifically, Eurovision provided delivery of the World Feed and a 10 court multilateral package for the European market.  During the two-week event, Eurovison managed up to 16 simultaneous paths, including unilateral services.

Eurovision has the contract to deliver the event for four years, through to 2011. In addition, while the existing contract included only Standard Definition (SD), there is an opportunity to extend into HD in 2009 and beyond.

Vital Statistics
> 144 multilateral transmissions
> 111 unilateral transmissions and dedicated services
> 16 dedicated paths over the two-week period

'As with any event of this nature, our biggest challenge was connectivity. We managed to secure a fibre network into the AELTC, so this meant that we were able to link to the FiNE network and provide simultaneous delivery on up to 16 paths. This had never been possible before. The benefit was that it allowed us to reduce the on-site presence of SNG trucks. Space in SW19 - the part of London where Wimbledon takes place - is at a premium and our proposal using fibre and no SNGs was a very desirable solution for the organizers.

'It is incredibly rewarding to think that Eurovison now delivers all four Grand Slam tennis events. The technical demands are great, and I personally believe this is a testament to our know-how and expertise, as well as to the solidity of our close relationship with IMG. It's a big feather in our cap and shows that we are trusted by our clients. That's a key to our success, I believe. Now we're looking ahead to Wimbledon 2009 and hoping to secure the HD distribution, as well.

'In the end, it was a fantastic Wimbledon, and not just because of probably the greatest men's final in the history of the sport!'
